What the median does not tell you
- SEAI’s median for a semi-detached house (€10,420) is higher than for a detached house (€9,000). Internal insulation is priced on the wall area actually treated and the reinstatement work behind it, and homeowners often line only the coldest rooms, so the totals do not track house size.
- Internal insulation is a substantially cheaper route than external insulation on the same house: €9,000 against €24,980 for a detached home. It also costs internal floor space and means removing and refitting skirting, sockets and radiators.
